Tri-Masters is a not-for-profit organization that empowers at-risk children via triathlon in order to teach life lessons. As our youth athletes learn to swim, bike and run, they gain skills in goal-setting, conflict resolution, respect, responsibility, self-discipline and perseverance.

"TRI...and you can MASTER anything in life."

This program has affiliations with one of the largest cohorts of African-American athletes in the Midwest, yet includes athletes of all races in leadership and volunteer roles. As the life's work of its founder, Bernard Lyles, the program was an opportunity to create a safe haven for children who are economically disadvantaged, have witnessed community violence, and may live in environments replete with alcohol and illicit drugs. The program teaches youth that their accomplishments are limited only by their dreams and perseverance. The program has allowed a 5-time Hawaii Ironman World Champion and other world-class athletes to host swim workshops and life skill workshops for participants, while also exposing these youth to community business professionals who make fitness a major part of their lives. The greatest reason for this program's uniqueness is that it has shown more than 1,500 inner-city youth that the world is full of opportunities if you persevere and prepare. The program's motto is "Tri and you can master anything in life." Nowhere is this more evident than in the eyes of the program's youth.

Tri-Masters Sports initiative Programs caught the attention of Chicago City Council Member, Fifth Ward Alderman Leslie Hairston. Wanting to impact the health of residents and youth in her Ward, Alderman Hairston sought to create an event that caters to the Southside's athletic community. Their collective vision for the event was to create a challenging, well planned, diverse, and fun experience for any level triathlete. To date, Tri-Masters' programs have influenced more than 1,000 inner-city youth that the world is full of opportunities if you persevere and prepare.

Victory's Edge

Triathlon is a dynamic sport and most beneficial when approached from a long-term perspective. While triathlon consists of three sports, it cannot be viewed as three separate events; it is the sum total that makes it a unique sport. At Victory's Edge, we use multiple factors building your training plans, including stress levels, rest, psychological and physical health, native ability, and life style. We develop a close relationship with each individual in order to maximize the training experience for optimal results. And, with an e-mail or a phone call, athletes can promptly reach out directly to their coach.

Triathlon is a life long health and fitness activity; it is a life sport. Our introduction of youth to the sport of triathlon is a great way to get physically fit for a lifetime. Age appropriate training is key to
ensuring young triathletes develop properly and compete at their best. Our coaches' education and experience equip then with the necessary skills and tools to enhance youth and juniors' performance through proper technique, training and recovery. The end result is achieving a feeling of success and accomplishment throughout the sport of triathlon. We, at Victory's Edge, help them set realistic and achievable goals while making their training exciting, fun rewarding but most importantly, Safe!

Why use a Youth Coaching Expert?

Amateur sports used to mean varsity and league teams in high school and college, but today more than thirty million kids play on a wide range of recreational and competitive or select teams at younger and younger ages. Parents want to encourage safe sports for their children, both on the
field and off. Whether your athlete is a six-year-old beginner or the star of a youth triathlon Victory's Edge(r) provides guidance on everything from working with youth to preventing and treating
sports-related injuries.

Victory's Edge has designed programs with the defined objectives of helping to put fun back into physical activity, and to enable your young athlete to be the best that he or she can be, both on and off the field.

Victory's Edge provides two kinds of guidelines. First, it helps both you and your child keep a sensible perspective on the benefits of organized sports and avoid a "win at all costs" mentality. Victory's Edge coaches help parents evaluate real-life situations and decisions. We address the concerns of parents who have no experience in sports but want to encourage their children to achieve their utmost potential.

Using a qualified coach specializing in youth and junior development can help ensure you are getting the most out of your child's training program. Youth coaches observe the big picture. If your child is struggling with putting all the components of a triathlon together, performance during a race, comparing themselves to their peers or running out of energy during training then their lack of professional youth coaching may be part of the problem. Victory's Edge training programs are
designed specifically for youth and juniors based on their development both physically and psychologically.

Victory's Edge provides age group athletes and fitness enthusiasts of all ages and abilities with professional, effective and courteous coaching and guidance to help you achieve your goals.
